I'm always finding interesting articles and videos on related color topics. Check back here for content and links.
1.Hanging art
The magical number is 57. The most common mistake is hanging pictures too high. 57 is the number in inches from the floor to the center of the picture or photo. Measure up the wall to 57 and make a mark. Now measure the height of your picture and divide by two. This is where the center of you photo should hit the 57” mark.
2. Hanging Dining room lights over tables.
The bottom of the light should be no less than 30 inches from top of table to bottom of light fixture and diameter 12 less than the size of the length or width of the table. Pendants should be 24” apart. This is just a general rule of thumb.
3. DYI painting tip
Tape or cut in just once. Paint your trim, moulding, or crown first. You don't have to tape off the wall. After it dries, (check cure time) then tape to paint the walls up to the tape. I like to use the green frog tape.
Celina Feng for the QC Design School wrote a very thoughtful post about what it means to be a color consultant.
She starts with the premise that homeowners tend to struggle making color choices for the interior and exterior of their home.
"This is where a color consultant comes in! They’re expected to know color theory and how to apply it when creating spaces for clients that reflect their wants, needs, and personalities." - Celina Feng
So what does a color consultant do and what services do they typically provide?
"Color consultants ... are employed to create color palettes for residential, commercial, and retail spaces. They do not design spaces to their own tastes, but instead employ their knowledge of how color works to meet their clients’ expectations and suit each space. As a result, color consultants work with everything from accessories to fabrics to paint swatches. Every item in a room can affect the atmosphere and incite a particular emotion depending on its color and placement in relation to other accessories." - Celina Feng
Pretty impressive and wide ranging description right? Let's try to narrow it down a bit.
A color consultation matches the lifestyle and taste of the homeowner to the interior design and color considerations of the interior and exterior of the home. The paint color consultant delivers color palette recommendations and a detailed plan on how to apply them including finish, placement and other recommendations.
There is a definite psychological aspect to a color consultation.
Celina describes it this way, "...the whole process is a collaboration between yourself and your clients. You’re using your expertise to achieve their goals. Being able to customize your advice to each individual case is crucial. Just because a certain color or room style is trendy doesn’t mean it should be applied to every job you get! Everyone has different tastes and you need to take that into consideration." - Celina Feng
Hopefully this helps you understand that your experience with a color consultant and the services they deliver are a lot more than just paint color samples.
